Alfa Laval
Maritime ship-emissions analytics tool
Project Overview
Alfa Laval partnered with ISE students to build the Maritime Analytics Tool, a desktop application that helps engineers turn raw ship operating data into reliable insight in support of lower fuel emissions. It replaces slow, manual steps with a faster and more dependable workflow.
Platform Features
- Data import & cleaning: CSV ingestion with automatic encoding and delimiter handling, plus interpolation and outlier detection
- Analysis engine: Background processing of large datasets so the interface stays responsive
- Reporting & visualisation: A report generator and table-based views that present processed data clearly
Technical Stack
The tool was developed using:
- Python as the core language
- Qt with a Model-View-Presenter (MVP) architecture
- NumPy and Pandas for high-performance data manipulation
- Unit-tested data handling enforced through the team’s Definition of Done
Impact
The tool gives Alfa Laval a faster, more accurate way to work with ship emissions data — a quality-of-life upgrade over their previous application and a concrete contribution to reducing fuel emissions.
Client Testimonial
